Evariste Maïga, a visual artist (born in 1980 in Lomé, Togo), lives and works in Geneva.
His multidisciplinary approach encompasses a wide range of media, including video,
photography, installation, printmaking, drawing, and text.
Inspired by popular culture, daily encounters, anecdotes, the periphery, and his personal experiences,
Maïga’s work explores themes of visibility, inherent potential, individuality, and "acting" in a broad sense.
Seemingly simple gestures, performativity, and humor influence the aesthetic and
analytical processes that underpin his creations.
Recently, Maïga has taken a particular interest in the concept of "understanding,"
delving into this fundamental experience within the context of both educational learning and everyday interactions.
Maïga's work has been exhibited in Switzerland, across Europe, and in the United Kingdom at institutions,
galleries, fairs, and festivals such as Kunstverein in Hamburg, the Centre d'Art Contemporain in Geneva,
the Fonds d’Art Contemporain de la Ville de Genève, the Liverpool Biennale, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London,
Bloomberg New Contemporaries in London, Art Night London, the Off Course Art Fair in Brussels,
the 4th Thessaloniki Biennale in Greece, and the Cooper Gallery in Scotland.
